On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the 1956 Revolution, the British Embassy in Budapest has launched Insights, a webpage to re-tell the story of the Revolution from the perspective of Hungarian and British staff serving at the British Legation of 1956 at Harmincad utca in Budapest.

The project offers a unique perspective into the events of the 1956 Revolution through reports, formerly “Confidential” telegrams and eyewitness recollections of a Western power – the British Legation – present in Hungary during the Revolution.

We would like to invite you and your students to get inspired by this wonderful resource and take part in our English language creative writing competition.

Best entry wins a visit the British Embassy and a chance to meet Ambassador Lindsay and receives a 10,000 HUF voucher.

All you need to do is to encourage and help your students to write a modern day format personal diary or report inspired by the resources, and send us the most creative response.
