Dear Visitor,

Welcome to our website!

The British Council has been present in Hungary since 1963. Since then we have changed a great deal as an organisation, as has the world around us. Through all this change our core mission has remained to strengthen cultural relations between the UK and Hungary.

In our work we use English as a medium, and as an objective in itself. This means building on our historic legacy as a world authority in the English language and international qualifications, but also as the entry point to best practice in education, science and innovation, and creative enterprise.

As for me, English has played a key role in who I am. When I was three years old, my family moved to Ireland and we lived there for four years. I first came to the British Council in the early 2000s, to take a Cambridge English exam. My background is in international relations, and I worked in policy and international development before taking up the post of Country Director in April 2019.

Our website will be your first port of call if you are looking to join one of our English courses or to sit an exam with us. If you’d like to know more about the work we do in internationalising education and science, teacher development, community engagement, or equality, diversity and inclusion, I encourage you to read more about our programmes. And if you want more information, or you’d like to share something with us, just drop us an email, or get in touch through one of our social media channels.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Attila Molnár

Country Director, Hungary
