Social Impact Hackathon
MOME Innovation Center and the British Council in Hungary are hosting a design-driven hackathon that will bring together interdisciplinary teams of talented young people to develop workable, well-designed and impact-driven solutions to social and environmental challenges.
The hackathon is for young people aged 18 to 35 who are passionate about sustainability and who enjoy the creative process of finding new and innovative solutions to problems. At the event, interdisciplinary teams of 4–5 people will work together for two days to co-create a solution to a case study and will have the opportunity to access experienced mentors onsite.
Hackathon dates: 17–19 November 2022
Please note: The hackathon will be held in English.
The detailed case study will be revealed to all registered participants a few days before the hackathon. However, we can confirm that we will offer participating teams the opportunity to decide which challenge out of two options they would like to focus their energies on solving.
The two challenge areas both relate to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
Circularity and Waste Management: SDG #12 – Responsible Consumption and Production
Sustainable consumption and production is about promoting resource and energy efficiency, sustainable infrastructure, and providing access to basic services, green and decent jobs and a better quality of life for all. Its implementation helps to achieve overall development plans, reduce future economic, environmental and social costs, strengthen economic competitiveness and reduce poverty.
Smart and Sustainable Cities: SDG #11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities
The world’s population is constantly increasing. To accommodate everyone, we need to build modern, sustainable cities. For all of us to survive and prosper, we need new, intelligent urban planning that creates safe, affordable and resilient cities with green and culturally inspiring living conditions.
- First prize: €2,000
- Second prize: €500
The winning team will also have the opportunity to further develop their winning idea and concept in MOME’s Incubation Programme, under the direction of an experienced mentor and subject matter expert.
